John is a photographer, educator and owner of LaFrance Corp. in Pennsylvania and Lightsong Studio in North Sutton, New Hampshire. His passion for photography started during his college years where he was given an opportunity to photograph Martin Luther King. He shared his love for photography by opening a photo studio and gallery in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. It was there he explored the art of photo manipulations in what he calls, “the old fashioned way prior to PhotoShop.” Under the guidance of art photography legends such as Andre Kertesz, Paul Caponigro, George Tice, George Krauss and Arnold Newman, he learned he had developed an intrigue and desire to explore more about fine art photography. In 1998, John began satisfying his passion for photography by collecting rare, fine art photography books. His interest in the evolution and understanding of photography as a fine art led him to collect this priceless collection. Many of the items in the collection are described in these books, The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century (2001) and The Photo book: a History, volumes 1 and 2 (2004). http://www.nhia.edu/teti-donation/
